Balloon Caddis
Roman Moser’s Balloon Caddis Dry Fly
The Balloon Caddis was developed by Austrian flyfisher and tier Roman Moser. It is tied to represent the adult Sedge or Caddis. Buoyancy is provided by an Elk Hair wing aided by yellow cell foam. A green egg sack to mimics the adult egg laying stage of the caddis/sedge and also act as a trigger.
The Balloon Caddis is a popular fly, often used as part of a duo or trio setup.
The Caddis (Tricoptera) is an important species to fly fisherman. There are many different species but most are similar in appearance varying only in size and colour. They have a distinctive roof-winged profile and long antennae that makes them easily identified.
Caddis / Sedge are present on both stillwater and rivers across the UK. From mid Spring until mid Autumn adults emerge often at dusk, taking some time to get airborne, skating across the surface and attracting the attention of fish.
